Rez Creator Tetsuya Mizuguchi Developing QJ for Wii

Techradar reports that one of the bigger reveals to come out of Atari's London press event today was a new Wii game helmed by Q Entertainment's Tetsuya Mizuguchi. The scant details that have been uncovered about this mystery Wii project thus far are that it's tentatively titled QJ, and that the gameplay will unsurprisingly involve music. Also emerging from the partnership between these two companies is a nifty Q Entertainment boxed set, which Atari will distribute. The compilation -- called Q3, or "Cubed" -- will feature some of Mizuguchi's recent XBLA games, including Rez HD, Every Ex... (original story)

Video Game Voice Actor Survives Mumbai Terrorist Attack

Michael Rudder is a video game voice actor who you may or may not heard of. His list of appearances is Splinter Cell, Far Cry Instincts, Prince of Persia: Warrior Within. He was never the main voice in any of the games. After reading his traumatic, yet amazing story I doubt you’ll ever forget ... (original story)

Analyst Estimates Nintendo Makes $6 per Wii Sold

Conventionally speaking, platform holders in the videogames industry tend to lose money on their hardware (at least for the first couple of years) while making money through software. But if we've learned anything about the Wii by now, it's that it's far from conventional. According to an estimate by analysts at Macquarie Securities (via Forbes), Nintendo actually makes $6 in profit for every Wii they sell. It's been common knowledge for a while that Nintendo profits on their hardware (due to the less expensive technological specs of the Wii), but this is the latest sense of just how m... Ready 2 Rumble Revolution Gameplay Video

When I heard about Ready 2 Rumble Revolution yesterday I was a bit skeptical. The original sequel to the arcade style boxing game was less than impressive. After taking a gander at the video, my skepticism has turned into cautious optimism. Here’s hoping we’ll hear more details about the game soon. (original story)

Piero's Wiicross v0.1: Picross homebrew for the Wii

There are very few Wiibrew games that make me go "wow." I have to say that this new one from Scognito is one of those games. From the looks of the screenshots alone, a lot of love and effort was put into the making of this game. This game is called Piero's Wiicross, a Picross game for the Wi... (original story)

Quartermann: Dragon Quest IX Coming To Wii As Well?

Last month we learned exactly how the connectivity between the Wii and DS would work in the upcoming Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Echoes of Time, but if the latest rumor from Quartermann in the the January issue of EGM is to be believed, Square Enix will not stop there with the new technology. Our favorite gossip master has heard that the RPG giant will be bringing Dragon Quest IX: Protectors of the Starry Sky to the Wii as well as the DS. While Dragon Quest IX being announced for the DS rather than a home console was a big enough surprise in the first place, fans of the long-run... (original story)

NRevolution closure: the official statement

You may recall that last week I posted a piece about the imminent closure of Imagine Publishing’s Nintendo mag NRevolution. You may also have noticed that the post has since been removed. I took it down at the respectful request of Imagine’s MD Damian Butt, who wished to make an official statement about the closure, which he promised to forward to me [...] (original story)

1UP FM Visits the House of the Dead

When 1UP FM co-host Nick Suttner and I shambled into work today, barely functioning after a Thanksgiving weekend overstuffed with food, we didn't expect to immediately be confronted by the living undead. Such are the risks we brave every day for you when entering the haunted grounds of 1UP ... (original story)

United States Patent Office Rejects Nintendo's Wii Remote Trademark Application

Think it's easy to get something trademarked? Nope, seems like the United States Patent and Trademark Office is a stickler for the little details. And it seems that Nintendo found out the hard way.According to Gamepolitics, Nintendo's application for a trademark on the name "Wii Remote" was rejected by U.S. Patent Office on the grounds that the term "remote" is too common. Oops.Nintendo can still get their trademark though. They just need to make sure that they disclaim any usage of the word "remote" unless it's used in the context of the term "Wii Remote." Actually, come to think of ... (original story)

“Digital distribution certainly will be a significant part of the entertainment industry in the future, but our predictions are that packaged media will continue to dominate the home video sector until 2015 at least.” - Bo Andersen, President and CEO of the Entertainment Merchants Association I don’t know that there will ever be a time where [...] (original story)

Koei Says 'No Place' for Itagaki after Tecmo Merger

In what might be the least necessary confirmation in recent gaming history, Koei president Kenji Matsubara told Famitsu (via IncGamers.com) that there would be no seat at the table for former Team Ninja boss, Tomonobu Itagaki. This suggests Itagaki would have wanted to go work for the company that cranks out countless sequels every year in the first place, which is plausible only if he's dying to make Gundam Gaiden Orochi Musou 5 XL Empires.Itagaki, you may recall, left Tecmo and filed a lawsuit against his former employer back in June, alleging that Tecmo refused to pay him a bonus h...
